Description
The Two Line Monocle Bream (Scolopsis bilineata), also known as the Two Lined Snapper, is a striking fish with a streamlined silver body, accented by two bold lines along its length and a yellow stripe running down its dorsal fin. This species, native to the Indo-Pacific, is often appreciated by aquarists for its resilience and unique coloration.
Though hardy, the Two Line Monocle Bream is semi-aggressive, particularly towards fish of similar shape or size. For this reason, it is best kept in a large, well-structured tank with plenty of hiding places. It may also nip at small invertebrates, making it only reef compatible with caution.
This carnivorous species feeds on meaty foods, including shrimp and small fish, and thrives when provided with a varied diet. To keep them healthy and active, offer regular feedings of high-quality carnivorous pellets or frozen food. For aquarists seeking a bold centerpiece, this species is a rewarding addition to appropriately sized systems.
Males can be territorial during breeding periods, particularly if kept in smaller environments. Therefore, a tank of at least 125 gallons is recommended to provide adequate swimming space and reduce aggression.
