Description
The Lot Aussie Stripey (Microcanthus strigatus), renowned for its bold, zebra-like black and yellow stripes, is a striking addition to any marine aquarium. This hardy fish is not only a visual treat but also highly beneficial in controlling Aiptasia, a nuisance anemone. With its peaceful nature, the Aussie Stripey cohabitates well in both reef and fish-only systems, making it a favorite among aquarists.
Native to the coastal waters of Australia and the Indo-Pacific, this species enjoys an environment with plenty of hiding spaces and live rock. Though typically peaceful, they may occasionally show minor aggression toward similar-looking species. The Aussie Stripey feeds on a varied omnivorous diet, including small meaty foods and algae, making them excellent algae grazers and useful for maintaining tank cleanliness.
As they grow to a moderate size, a tank of at least 55 gallons is recommended to provide ample swimming space and maintain optimal health. These fish adapt well to various tank conditions but thrive in stable, well-maintained environments with consistent water quality.
