Description
The Ambon Damsel (Pomacentrus amboinensis) is a colorful and hardy fish known for its striking yellow body accented by blue lines around the eyes and gill plates. It also features a distinctive black eyespot near its dorsal fin, which serves as a defense mechanism against predators. Native to the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific, this small and active damsel fish makes a lively addition to both reef and community aquariums.
Ambon Damsels are generally peaceful but can display semi-aggressive behavior, especially toward other damsels or fish of similar size. It is best to keep them in a well-established tank with plenty of hiding spaces and rock formations to reduce territorial disputes.
As omnivores, Ambon Damsels are easy to feed and will accept a variety of foods, including flakes, pellets, and frozen foods such as brine shrimp and mysis shrimp. They are also reef-safe, coexisting well with corals and other invertebrates.
Due to their resilience and relatively low maintenance, the Ambon Damsel is a great option for both beginner and experienced aquarists. A tank of at least 30 gallons is recommended to ensure plenty of swimming space and a stable environment.
