Description
The Bariene Tang (Acanthurus bariene) is a stunning large tang species known for its unique blend of brown, orange, and blue hues. The distinct orange dorsal fin contrasts beautifully with its streamlined brown body, edged with blue highlights, making the Bariene Tang a striking centerpiece for any large marine aquarium.
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, this species is semi-aggressive and should be kept with other fish of similar temperament. While it can coexist peacefully with other species, care should be taken when introducing it to tanks with other tangs, as territorial disputes can occur, especially in smaller systems.
As a herbivore, the Bariene Tang requires a diet rich in marine-based algae and plant matter. Providing a varied diet that includes seaweed sheets and algae-based pellets will keep it healthy and help maintain its vibrant colors. Additionally, it is known to graze on algae within the tank, helping to keep the environment clean.
Due to its large size and active swimming habits, a minimum tank size of 180 gallons is recommended to house this species comfortably. The Bariene Tang is reef compatible and generally safe with corals and invertebrates, making it a great choice for both fish-only and reef setups. With proper care, the Bariene Tang can be a long-lived and rewarding addition to any large marine aquarium.
