Description
The Batu Wrasse, a member of the Labridae family, is known for its vibrant color pattern of green with red spots and distinctive black eye-like spots near the dorsal fin. This coloration serves as camouflage and a defense mechanism against predators in the wild. Native to the reefs of the Indo-Pacific region, the Batu Wrasse is an active swimmer, requiring an aquarium with plenty of open space and hiding spots within live rock.
The Batu Wrasse has a semi-aggressive temperament and should be housed with other moderately aggressive tankmates. Though generally reef compatible, it may nip at small invertebrates or disturb sand beds while foraging for food. In the aquarium, it should be fed a carnivorous diet, including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and other meaty fare. With proper care, this colorful and active wrasse makes a captivating addition to appropriately stocked marine tanks.
