Description
The Bicolor Blenny (Ecsenius bicolor) is a popular saltwater fish known for its striking two-toned coloration. Its front half is usually a deep purple or blue, while its back half transitions into a bright yellow or orange, creating a beautiful contrast. This fish is known for its comical personality and perching habits, making it a favorite among aquarium enthusiasts.
Bicolor Blennies are peaceful and reef-safe, making them an ideal choice for community reef tanks. They are active grazers, constantly searching for algae to feed on, which helps with algae control in the aquarium. They spend much of their time perched on rocks or darting between crevices, giving them a unique behavior that is both functional and entertaining.
These blennies are herbivores and should be provided with plenty of algae to graze on. If natural algae growth is insufficient, you can supplement their diet with algae-based flakes or pellets, as well as blanched vegetables such as spinach or nori.
Their small size and peaceful nature make them suitable for smaller tanks, but they may become territorial with other blennies or similarly shaped fish. However, they are generally peaceful with other tank mates, especially when given ample space to establish a territory. The Bicolor Blenny’s hardy nature makes it a great choice for beginners and experienced aquarists alike.
