Description
The Blue Eye Tang (Ctenochaetus flavicauda), also known as the Two Spot Bristletooth Tang, is a strikingly beautiful marine fish with a deep orange-brown body adorned with fine blue spots across its body and vivid blue eyes that give it a unique appearance. The spots add a shimmering effect that makes this fish a captivating addition to any marine aquarium. This tang is known for being an efficient grazer of algae, especially filamentous algae, making it a practical choice for reef tanks that require algae control. While relatively peaceful, it can show semi-aggressive behavior toward other tangs, particularly in smaller tanks. Therefore, a minimum of 100 gallons is recommended to ensure ample swimming space and reduce territorial disputes. The Blue Eye Tang thrives in environments with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding. In terms of diet, it is primarily herbivorous but will accept a variety of foods, including spirulina, seaweed, and other algae-based foods. Supplementing its diet with marine-based food helps keep it vibrant and healthy. This tang is a great option for intermediate aquarists due to its semi-aggressive nature and moderate care requirements. It brings a functional and visually appealing element to larger reef tanks.
