Description
The Blue Leg Hermit Crab (Clibanarius tricolor) is a small and colorful addition to marine and reef aquariums, well known for its bright blue legs and active behavior. This crab is highly sought after as part of a clean-up crew, as it helps to maintain a healthy tank by consuming detritus, leftover food, and algae, including hair algae. The Blue Leg Hermit Crab is peaceful and generally compatible with other tank inhabitants, making it a safe choice for reef aquariums. However, like most hermit crabs, it may compete with other crabs or snails for shells, so providing plenty of empty shells of various sizes will help reduce aggression and ensure their well-being. This tiny crab is hardy and easy to care for, making it a popular choice for beginner aquarists. It thrives in established tanks with live rock and plenty of hiding spaces. As an omnivore, it will readily consume both plant-based foods and small meaty foods, contributing to the overall cleanliness of the tank. Approximate Purchase Size: ¼” to 1″
