Description
The Bluefin (Dusky) Angelfish, known for its dusky blue coloration accented with subtle yellow highlights on the fins, is a beautiful and hardy marine species. Its unique, muted color palette and adaptability make it an attractive choice for marine aquariums, but care must be taken to provide it with adequate space and compatible tank mates due to its semi-aggressive temperament.
Native to rocky reefs, the Bluefin Angelfish thrives in a tank with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding. As an omnivore, it requires a varied diet that includes both vegetable matter (such as marine algae and spirulina) and meaty foods like mysis shrimp and chopped seafood. This diet helps maintain its health and coloration.
While generally reef-compatible, caution should be exercised in reef setups, as this angelfish may nip at soft corals and certain invertebrates. A minimum tank size of 100 gallons is recommended to give it enough space to establish its territory comfortably. With proper care, the Bluefin (Dusky) Angelfish can be a hardy and eye-catching addition to a well-maintained marine aquarium.
