Description
The Green Serpent Star (Ophiarachna incrassata) is a hardy and adaptable member of the brittle star family, recognized for its long, slender arms and deep green color with distinctive textured patterns. Known for its peaceful nature, this species is an excellent choice for reef aquariums, where it helps to clean detritus and leftover food from the substrate, contributing to the overall health of the tank environment.
Green Serpent Stars are mostly nocturnal and prefer to hide during the day, emerging at night to forage. Though generally peaceful, they can become opportunistic scavengers if not fed regularly. Supplementing their diet with small meaty foods like mysis shrimp or chopped fish helps ensure they do not disturb smaller tank inhabitants. They are well-suited to reef aquariums and can cohabit well with other peaceful tankmates.
These starfish require stable water conditions but are otherwise low-maintenance and adaptable. With adequate hiding places and a diet that matches their omnivorous nature, the Green Serpent Star can thrive and grow impressively in a well-maintained aquarium.
