Description
The Green Canary Blenny, scientifically known as Meiacanthus tongaensis, is a vibrant and colorful species native to the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific region. This small fish displays a bright green body with yellow accents, particularly on its fins and facial features, making it a stunning addition to any reef aquarium.
As herbivores, Green Canary Blennies primarily feed on algae and other plant-based materials. In captivity, they thrive on a varied diet that includes high-quality spirulina flakes, marine algae sheets, and occasional protein-rich foods to ensure a well-balanced nutrition.
These blennies are known for their peaceful nature, often establishing territories in the aquarium while forming a symbiotic relationship with the rockwork. They are excellent algae grazers and help maintain a clean aquarium environment by controlling algal growth.
Green Canary Blennies are reef safe and can coexist harmoniously with a variety of other fish and invertebrates, making them ideal for community tanks. Providing plenty of hiding places and live rock in the aquarium will allow them to thrive and display their natural behaviors.
