Description
The Cinnamon Clown (Amphiprion melanopus), also known as the Red and Black Anemonefish, is a striking species that features a rich red-orange body with a black underbelly and distinctive white head stripe. This bold coloration makes the Cinnamon Clown an eye-catching addition to any marine aquarium.
Known for its hardy nature, the Cinnamon Clown is an ideal species for both beginner and experienced aquarists. It can adapt to a variety of aquarium conditions and is relatively easy to care for, making it a popular choice in reef and community setups. While generally peaceful, Cinnamon Clowns can exhibit semi-aggressive behavior, especially when defending their territory or anemone host.
In the wild, Cinnamon Clowns have symbiotic relationships with anemones, but they can thrive in captivity without one. If an anemone is present, this clownfish may form a bond with it, though it is not required for their survival.
As an omnivore, the Cinnamon Clownfish will accept a wide variety of foods, including flakes, pellets, frozen, and live meaty foods. Providing a balanced diet will help maintain their vibrant colors and overall health.
A minimum tank size of 30 gallons is recommended to house this species, with plenty of live rock and hiding places. The Cinnamon Clown is reef-safe and will coexist peacefully with corals and most invertebrates, making it an excellent addition to a reef tank.
