Description
The Clown Tang (Acanthurus lineatus), also known as the Lined Surgeonfish, is easily identified by its vivid horizontal stripes of blue and yellow. This tang species is known for its stunning coloration but also for its challenging care requirements. It can reach a size of up to 15 inches and is highly active, requiring a large tank of at least 250 gallons.
This species is aggressive, especially towards other tangs, and can become very territorial. It is primarily herbivorous, thriving on a diet of marine algae and vegetable-based foods. The Clown Tang is reef-safe but needs pristine water conditions and stable water parameters to thrive.
It’s a stunning fish that can add vibrancy to a well-maintained reef tank but is best suited for experienced aquarists due to its care demands and temperament.
