Description
The Blue Knuckle Hermit Crab (Calcinus elegans), also known as the Electric Blue Hermit Crab, is a stunning and hardy addition to a marine or reef aquarium. With its vibrant blue legs, black body, and striking orange antennae, it adds a splash of color to any setup. This hermit crab is not only beautiful but also beneficial, as it plays a vital role in cleaning the tank by consuming detritus, algae, and uneaten food. The Blue Knuckle Hermit Crab is reef-safe and can coexist peacefully with corals and other invertebrates, making it an ideal member of the aquarium’s clean-up crew. However, like other hermit crabs, it may occasionally compete for shells, so providing a variety of empty shells in the tank is recommended to prevent aggression. As an omnivore, this species will feed on a variety of foods, including algae, detritus, and small pieces of meaty food. If the tank’s natural food supply is insufficient, supplementing their diet with algae wafers or marine-based foods will help ensure they remain healthy. Approximate Purchase Size: 1″ to 2″
