Description
The Flame Filefish, scientifically known as Pervagor melanocephalus, is a visually striking species that adds a burst of color to any aquarium with its vibrant orange body and contrasting blue head. This fish is well-loved by aquarists for its unique appearance and relatively peaceful nature, making it suitable for community reef tanks.
Native to the warm waters of the Indo-Pacific, the Flame Filefish thrives in coral-rich environments where it can find plenty of hiding spots among rocks and corals. Its diet consists mainly of algae, small invertebrates, and zooplankton, and in captivity, it will accept a variety of foods, including high-quality flakes, pellets, and frozen foods.
While this species is generally peaceful, it is advisable to keep it with similarly sized tankmates to avoid potential aggression, especially during feeding times. The Flame Filefish is known for its ability to blend into its surroundings, making it a fascinating fish to observe as it swims gracefully through the reef.
