Description
The Flame Tail Blenny (Ecsenius bicolor), also known as the Bicolor Blenny, is a popular choice for aquarists due to its unique coloration and lively personality. This small fish features a striking black body with a bright yellow tail, adding an eye-catching contrast to any marine tank.
Native to coral reefs in the Indo-Pacific region, the Flame Tail Blenny is known for its peaceful nature and ability to blend into various tank setups. This species prefers aquariums with plenty of live rock and crevices where it can hide and explore. It is an active grazer, feeding on algae, which makes it an excellent addition to help control algae growth in the aquarium.
As an herbivore, the Flame Tail Blenny primarily consumes algae and should be supplemented with high-quality plant-based foods. Offering spirulina, marine algae, and vegetable-based pellets or flakes will keep this fish healthy and colorful.
This blenny is reef-compatible and safe with corals, making it a suitable choice for reef tanks. It generally does well in community tanks but may occasionally display territorial behavior toward other blennies or similarly shaped fish.
