Description
The Fourline Red Sea Cleaner Wrasse (Larabicus quadrilineatus) is a stunning and highly specialized fish known for its role as a “cleaner” in the marine environment, where it removes parasites and dead tissue from other fish. Found in the coral reefs of the Red Sea, this species features a slender body adorned with vibrant blue stripes running the length of its body, enhancing its elegant appearance.
This wrasse is recommended only for expert aquarists due to its specialized diet and care requirements. It thrives in a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock, which provides it with the opportunity to perform its natural cleaning behaviors. While the Fourline Red Sea Cleaner Wrasse is peaceful and suitable for reef tanks, it may be challenging to feed in captivity, as it primarily relies on eating parasites and mucous from other fish. In the absence of suitable hosts, it may require frequent feedings of small, finely chopped seafood, enriched mysis shrimp, and other meaty foods to simulate its natural diet.
Due to its delicate nature and specialized care needs, this fish is best suited for large, mature reef tanks with stable water parameters. Keeping it with tank mates that benefit from its cleaning behavior can promote its well-being in captivity.
