Description
The Fourspot Butterflyfish (Chaetodon quadrimaculatus) is a visually striking and unique addition to marine aquariums, notable for the distinct white spots on its dark back and the beautiful contrast between its vibrant yellow body and black patches. Native to coral reefs across the Indo-Pacific region, this fish thrives in peaceful community tanks with plenty of hiding places among live rock.
While generally peaceful, the Fourspot Butterflyfish may require careful monitoring in reef tanks, as it might nip at soft corals, anemones, and small invertebrates. It is best suited for a larger, well-established aquarium with non-aggressive tankmates. These fish feed on a varied diet of live and frozen foods, including algae, mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood, to maintain health.
This species is moderately difficult to care for due to its specific dietary needs and sensitivity to water conditions, making it a better choice for more experienced aquarists. However, with the proper care and environment, the Fourspot Butterflyfish can be a beautiful and peaceful addition to a saltwater aquarium.
