Description
The Yellow Wartskin Angler (Antennarius maculatus), commonly referred to as the Wartskin Frogfish, is a small and unusual predatory species with an intriguing appearance. Its bright yellow, mottled with patches of brown or red, helps it blend into its surroundings as it waits to ambush prey. Found in the Indo-Pacific region, this fish uses its camouflaged appearance and an extended “lure” to attract prey such as small fish or crustaceans, making it an effective ambush predator. Though this species is relatively peaceful towards non-prey tankmates, it will eat anything that can fit into its large mouth, making it important to house it with appropriately sized fish. The Wartskin Angler prefers a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock and hiding spots to support its secretive lifestyle. As a carnivore, the Wartskin Angler feeds on live or frozen meaty foods such as small fish, shrimp, and other crustaceans. It should be monitored in reef tanks, as it may eat small invertebrates. However, it generally poses no harm to corals. Approximate Purchase Size: 1″ to 2.5″
