Description
The Gold Puffer (Arothron meleagris), also known as the Golden Pufferfish, is a fascinating species known for its vibrant yellow-gold coloration and endearing, expressive eyes. This bold and curious fish is sure to stand out in any aquarium, bringing both personality and vibrant color to the setup.
In terms of tank setup, the Gold Puffer requires ample swimming space and plenty of hiding spots to help it feel secure. As a semi-aggressive species, it should be housed with other robust, non-aggressive tankmates, as it may show territorial behaviors, especially if space is limited.
A carnivorous diet is essential for this puffer’s health, consisting of meaty foods like shrimp, clams, and squid to keep its beak-like teeth from overgrowing. Not suited for reef tanks, this pufferfish may nip at corals and invertebrates, making it best suited for a fish-only aquarium.
