Description
The Half Black Angelfish (Centropyge vrolikii) is a unique and striking addition to any marine aquarium, known for its distinctive coloration featuring a deep black back half contrasting with a lighter front. This angelfish is moderately hardy, making it suitable for aquarists with some experience in maintaining saltwater aquariums. Native to the reefs of the Indo-Pacific, the Half Black Angelfish thrives in an environment with ample hiding spots, live rock, and algae for grazing.
While generally semi-aggressive, this species may show territorial behavior toward other small angelfish or similar-sized fish. It is reef-compatible with caution, as it may occasionally nip at soft corals or other invertebrates. Feeding should include a variety of foods, such as algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, and other meaty foods, to meet its omnivorous dietary needs. Regular small feedings throughout the day are recommended to keep this angelfish healthy and vibrant.
With a maximum size of around 6 inches, the Half Black Angelfish requires a minimum tank size of 55 gallons to accommodate its active swimming and territorial nature.
