Description

The Half-and-Half Wrasse (Thalassoma hebraicum), also known as the Black and Yellow Wrasse, is a visually striking species with a distinctive color split—yellow on the tail half and a darker shade on the front. This contrast, along with vibrant green highlights on the scales, makes it a captivating addition to larger marine aquariums. Native to the reefs of the Indo-Pacific, this wrasse is an active swimmer, exploring open spaces and foraging through live rock in search of food.

The Half-and-Half Wrasse is semi-aggressive, often displaying territorial behavior, especially towards smaller, more passive tank mates. It is generally safe in a reef setup with caution, as it may pose a threat to small invertebrates like shrimp, crabs, and snails. This species is best kept with other semi-aggressive fish in a tank that offers ample space for swimming and hiding places to reduce aggression.

As a carnivore, the Half-and-Half Wrasse thrives on a diet of meaty foods, including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped marine flesh. A varied diet with frequent feedings is essential to maintain its health and vibrant coloration.

With a maximum size of 7 inches, this wrasse requires a minimum tank size of 70 gallons. Its active nature and semi-aggressive behavior make it better suited to experienced aquarists who can manage its specific habitat needs and tank dynamics.
