Description
The Honeycomb or Cushion Starfish is a stunning and unique starfish known for its bold red coloration and honeycomb-like texture. It has a thick, cushion-like body and often appears in various shades of red, orange, and pink, making it an eye-catching addition to larger marine aquariums.
This starfish is peaceful and spends much of its time grazing along the substrate in search of food. It feeds on detritus, algae, and small invertebrates, contributing to the tank’s cleanliness. However, it requires careful handling and should be introduced into a mature tank with stable water conditions, as it is sensitive to sudden changes in salinity and temperature.
While generally reef safe, the Honeycomb Starfish may occasionally disturb corals and other sessile invertebrates as it moves through the aquarium. It is best kept in tanks with ample live rock and a sandy substrate, where it can forage naturally.
