Description
The Hooded Butterflyfish is a strikingly beautiful species, known for its unique coloration and elegant form. It features a bright orange face and contrasting white body with delicate, narrow blue stripes extending to its fins. The fish’s hooded look is completed with a dramatic black border around the body and fins, giving it a regal appearance in any aquarium setting.
While peaceful by nature, the Hooded Butterflyfish requires careful consideration when placed in a reef environment, as it may nip at coral polyps and other invertebrates. It does best in a spacious tank with plenty of live rock for grazing, as well as hiding places to mimic its natural habitat.
In terms of diet, this omnivorous fish enjoys a variety of foods, including marine algae, mysis shrimp, and high-quality flake or pellet foods formulated for butterflyfish. The Hooded Butterflyfish is recommended for intermediate aquarists due to its specific dietary and environmental needs, and it thrives in well-maintained water conditions with stable parameters.
