Description

The Maroon Clownfish Pair (Premnas biaculeatus), also known as the Maroon Stripe Clownfish, is a striking and hardy choice for both beginner and advanced marine aquarists. With deep red coloration and bold white or gold stripes, this clownfish species is among the largest and most vibrant members of the Pomacentridae family. These clowns are a popular choice for marine tanks due to their unique look and relatively easy care.

The Maroon Clownfish is native to Indo-Pacific reefs and displays semi-aggressive behavior, especially when paired, as they often develop strong bonds and defend their space with vigor. They thrive in tanks with plenty of live rock or coral, which provides them with hiding places and mimics their natural habitat. Known for their association with sea anemones, they can host in various anemone species, enhancing their vibrant coloration and natural behaviors.

As omnivores, Maroon Clownfish are not particularly finicky eaters and will accept a variety of foods in captivity, including marine pellets, flakes, and frozen foods like mysis shrimp or brine shrimp. Offering a varied diet will help maintain their colors and overall health.

A minimum tank size of 30 gallons is recommended for this pair due to their territorial nature and size. With their hardy nature and beautiful color, Maroon Clownfish are an excellent choice for a reef-compatible setup where they can coexist peacefully with most corals and invertebrates. Their semi-aggressive temperament makes them best suited for tanks with similarly sized fish and tank mates that can handle their occasionally assertive behavior.
