Description
The Maxima Clam (Blue) is a highly prized specimen among reef aquarists due to its striking blue and green mantle, adorned with intricate patterns and black spots. This large aquacultured clam makes a stunning focal point in any reef setup and is well-suited for experienced aquarists who can meet its specific care requirements.
As a photosynthetic organism, the Maxima Clam hosts symbiotic algae (zooxanthellae) within its tissues, providing it with essential nutrients through photosynthesis. This clam requires strong lighting, preferably from metal halide or high-quality LED lights, to sustain its energy needs. In addition to photosynthesis, it is a filter feeder and will benefit from periodic feedings with phytoplankton or similar microfoods, especially in younger tanks with limited natural plankton.
The Maxima Clam should be placed on a stable rock surface, where it can attach itself securely with its byssal threads. It thrives in moderate water flow and requires regular monitoring of calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels to support healthy shell growth. Proper calcium supplementation is crucial for maintaining its hard shell and overall well-being.
