Description
The Miniatus Grouper (Cephalopholis miniata), also known as the Coral Hind, is a stunning and vibrant fish known for its bright red body and distinctive blue spots. Native to the Indo-Pacific region, it is a popular species in the marine aquarium trade due to its striking appearance, although it requires specific care.
This grouper is known to be aggressive, especially towards smaller fish or any tank mates it can fit into its mouth. As such, it’s ideal for predator tanks or systems housing similarly sized and aggressive species. While it can coexist with certain reef setups, caution is necessary, as it may prey on smaller invertebrates or fish.
The Miniatus Grouper thrives in large tanks with plenty of hiding spots like caves and crevices within live rock structures. It can grow up to 18 inches, requiring a minimum tank size of 180 gallons. A carnivorous diet consisting of meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, and fish is essential for its health. Regular feedings and maintaining good water quality are key to keeping this fish vibrant and healthy.
