Description
The Naso Tang (Naso lituratus), also known as the Lipstick Tang due to its vibrant orange lips, is a popular species for large reef aquariums. Its body is adorned with a combination of blue, gray, and yellow hues, highlighted by orange markings near its eyes and tail. The Naso Tang is relatively peaceful and can coexist with other non-aggressive fish species.
It thrives in large tanks due to its active swimming nature and requires a minimum of 180 gallons to ensure ample swimming space. Like other tangs, the Naso Tang is herbivorous and primarily feeds on marine algae. Its diet should be supplemented with dried seaweed or algae-based foods to maintain its health and vibrant coloration.
This species is also reef-safe, making it an excellent addition to a reef aquarium, and it will help control algae growth within the tank. Despite its large size, the Naso Tang is relatively easy to care for and adapts well to aquarium life, provided that water quality is consistently maintained.
