Description
The Pearl Toby Puffer (Canthigaster margaritata), also known as the “Spotted Puffer,” is a vibrant and uniquely patterned fish, adorned with pearly spots and iridescent blue lines near its eyes. This small pufferfish brings a burst of character to aquariums with its distinct look and playful demeanor.
Though it is generally peaceful, the Pearl Toby Puffer can display semi-aggressive behavior, especially towards smaller invertebrates. It’s best suited for a species-specific or fish-only tank, as it may nip at corals and small crustaceans. This omnivorous species enjoys a varied diet of meaty foods like brine shrimp, mysis, and small shellfish, supplemented with marine algae or vegetable-based food.
With a maximum size of 4 inches, this pufferfish is ideal for smaller tanks of at least 30 gallons, as long as there are hiding spots and ample swimming space. Its curious nature and eye-catching appearance make it a favorite for aquarists looking to add a unique and interactive fish to their marine setup.
