Description
The Peppered Moray Eel (Gymnothorax pictus) is a striking addition to a large aquarium with its speckled black-and-white pattern that makes it stand out in any marine setup. Known for its elongated body and sharp teeth, this eel requires a spacious tank with plenty of hiding places among rocks and caves to mimic its natural habitat.
As a carnivore, the Peppered Moray Eel thrives on a diet of meaty foods, including shrimp, fish, and squid. It has a semi-aggressive temperament and may be territorial, particularly towards smaller tank mates. Due to its potential size and dietary needs, it’s best kept in a species-specific tank or with other large, non-aggressive fish. While it can be kept in a reef tank with caution, there’s a risk of it preying on smaller fish and crustaceans.
This eel is recommended for experienced aquarists due to its care requirements and specialized habitat needs. With proper care, it can be an impressive and unique showpiece in a well-maintained saltwater aquarium.
