Description
The Panda/Bantayan Butterflyfish (Chaetodon adiergastos), often referred to as the “Panda Butterflyfish,” is recognized by its unique black-and-white facial markings paired with a striking yellow outline around its fins. This peaceful fish is ideal for a moderately-sized aquarium, bringing an exotic and serene aesthetic to marine setups.
The Butterflyfish is an omnivore, requiring a varied diet that includes meaty foods like mysis shrimp along with algae-based food options. Although it is generally peaceful and safe for most tank environments, caution should be taken in reef tanks, as it may nip at coral polyps and certain invertebrates.
Reaching a maximum size of 5 inches, this species does well in a tank of at least 50 gallons with plenty of hiding spaces and live rock for grazing. The Panda/Bantayan Butterflyfish is perfect for aquarists looking to add a unique and colorful member to their community tank, but it may require more experience to meet its specific care needs.
