Description
The Pilot Fish (Naucrates ductor) or Golden Trevally is a striking species with a silvery yellow body adorned with bold, vertical black stripes. Known for its unique behavior in the wild, Pilot Fish often accompany larger marine animals, such as sharks and rays, feeding off their scraps and benefiting from their protection.
In an aquarium, Pilot Fish require a very large tank due to their active swimming habits and potential size. They prefer stable, high-quality water conditions and thrive on a carnivorous diet of shrimp, fish, and other meaty foods. Though generally peaceful, they should be kept in a carefully chosen community of fish with similar tank requirements.
Due to their size and activity, they are best suited to experienced aquarists with ample space and resources.
