Description

The Pom Pom Crab (Lybia tessellata), also known as the Boxer Crab, is a peaceful and fascinating species with a unique behavior that makes it a popular addition to reef aquariums. Named for the tiny sea anemones it holds in its claws, which look like pom-poms, this crab uses the anemones both as a defense mechanism and as a tool to catch food. The symbiotic relationship between the Pom Pom Crab and the anemones adds an interesting dynamic to any aquarium. Despite its small size, the Pom Pom Crab is quite hardy and thrives in peaceful reef environments. It is reef-safe and will not harm corals, invertebrates, or small fish, making it an excellent choice for nano aquariums and larger setups alike. As an omnivore, the Pom Pom Crab feeds on small meaty foods, algae, and detritus. It should be provided with a balanced diet, including small pieces of shrimp, fish, or pellet foods, as well as algae-based foods for a complete nutritional profile. Due to its peaceful nature, the Pom Pom Crab should be kept with other peaceful tankmates. It spends much of its time hiding in rockwork or crevices but will occasionally venture out, providing an entertaining display of its pom-poms in action. Approximate Purchase Size: 0.5″ to 1″
