Description

The Porcelain Anemone Crab (Neopetrolisthes ohshimai) is a peaceful and fascinating species commonly found in reef aquariums. It features a distinctive red and white spotted pattern across its body and large claws. Known for its peaceful nature, the Porcelain Anemone Crab is well-suited for reef tanks and is typically seen coexisting with anemones. The crab has a symbiotic relationship with anemones, using them for protection from predators. In return, the crab cleans debris from the anemone’s tentacles. It also uses its fine, feathery appendages to filter feed, catching plankton and other small particles from the water column. Although it is mostly peaceful, it may display slight aggression towards other Porcelain Crabs when space or food is limited. It’s important to ensure that the tank has adequate hiding places and that the crab has access to an anemone, as this greatly reduces stress. Despite their association with anemones, they can also survive without one, provided they have sufficient shelter. The Porcelain Anemone Crab is relatively easy to care for, making it a great option for beginner aquarists. It feeds on plankton and detritus, making it a valuable member of the tank’s clean-up crew. Since it’s a filter feeder, supplemental feedings of small plankton-based foods can ensure its health. Approximate Purchase Size: 1″ to 2″
