Description
The Powder Blue Tang (Acanthurus leucosternon) is known for its striking and vibrant coloration, featuring a powder blue body, a bright yellow dorsal fin, and a dark mask over its face. This fish is highly sought after for its beautiful appearance but requires experienced care due to its delicate nature and propensity for aggression, especially towards other tangs or similar species.
It is an active swimmer and needs a large tank (125 gallons or more) to thrive. The Powder Blue Tang is a herbivore that will graze on algae in the aquarium, helping to keep it clean. A varied diet of marine algae, seaweed, and spirulina is necessary for optimal health.
Though reef-safe, this species can become stressed if not provided with ample space, excellent water quality, and a peaceful environment. The Powder Blue Tang is a more advanced species for aquarists due to its sensitivity and territorial behavior.
