Description
The Purple Frondosa Rhinopias, also known as Rhinopias frondosa, is a captivating and unique addition for experienced aquarists. This rare species displays a beautiful and intricate body structure with vivid purple coloration, making it a striking focal point in any aquarium setting. The frond-like appendages provide excellent camouflage, allowing it to blend seamlessly with coral and rocky environments.
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, the Purple Frondosa Rhinopias prefers a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock for hiding. While it is generally semi-aggressive, it should not be kept with smaller tank mates as it is a carnivore and may prey on fish that can fit in its mouth. Feeding primarily on live foods like shrimp and small fish, this species may require weaning onto frozen foods over time. Due to its sensitive nature and specific care requirements, it is recommended for expert hobbyists who can maintain stable water conditions and provide proper habitat enrichment.
This species is considered “Reef Compatible With Caution” as it may show interest in small invertebrates, and its camouflage abilities make it prone to accidental injuries. Ensure ample space to reduce potential territorial disputes with other semi-aggressive species.
