Description
The Purple Tube Anemone is a captivating marine invertebrate, recognized for its long, flowing tentacles and vibrant purple and green coloration. Unlike true anemones, tube anemones create a soft, tube-like structure in the sand where they can retract for protection. This unique behavior, along with their beautiful colors, makes them an attractive addition to marine aquariums, especially for advanced hobbyists.
Native to deeper reef environments, the Purple Tube Anemone requires a sandy substrate where it can burrow and secure itself. It is semi-aggressive, as its long tentacles can deliver a mild sting, potentially irritating nearby corals and invertebrates. For this reason, it’s best to give it plenty of space in the aquarium to prevent accidental contact.
This carnivorous anemone benefits from regular feedings of small, meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or chopped fish. It thrives under moderate lighting and gentle water flow, which allows its tentacles to sway naturally. Because of its sensitivity to sudden changes, stable water conditions are crucial for its well-being.
