Description

The Randall’s Tilefish (Hoplolatilus randalli), also known as the Pinkbar Goby, is a beautiful marine fish prized for its bright coloration and graceful swimming behavior. This peaceful species is adorned in shades of yellow, blue, and pink, making it a striking addition to any saltwater aquarium. Its shy nature makes it well-suited to a community tank with other non-aggressive fish.

Native to the Indo-Pacific region, Randall’s Tilefish thrives in reef aquariums with plenty of live rock for hiding and burrowing spaces. It tends to create burrows in sandy substrates and will retreat into them if it feels threatened, so providing a substrate depth of at least 2 inches is ideal for its comfort and natural behavior.

As a carnivore, Randall’s Tilefish enjoys a diet of meaty foods, such as mysis shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and enriched brine shrimp. Multiple small meals throughout the day help this tilefish maintain its energy and vibrant colors.

Reaching up to 6″ in length, Randall’s Tilefish requires a minimum tank size of 50 gallons to allow ample space for swimming and exploring. The tank should be securely covered, as tilefish are known jumpers and can easily escape from open aquariums.

Reef-compatible and peaceful towards corals and invertebrates, Randall’s Tilefish makes an excellent addition to a reef community aquarium. Its striking colors and gentle disposition add vibrancy and life to the tank, while its burrowing habits bring a unique and natural dynamic to the aquarium environment.
