Description
The Red Finger Gorgonia (Diodogorgia nodulifera) is a strikingly beautiful soft coral species distinguished by its bright red or orange branches and contrasting yellow or white polyps. This peaceful species is highly sought after for its unique appearance, adding a dynamic element to established reef aquariums. However, due to its specific care requirements, the Red Finger Gorgonia is recommended only for expert hobbyists.
Native to the deeper waters of the Caribbean, the Red Finger Gorgonia requires a well-established, low-light aquarium with stable water conditions and high water flow. This coral does not contain zooxanthellae and is therefore unable to derive nutrients from light. Instead, it relies entirely on filter feeding, making frequent feedings of phytoplankton, marine snow, and other micro-plankton essential for its health and survival.
Due to its delicate nature, it is crucial to monitor water parameters and provide consistent feeding for this coral. With proper care, the Red Finger Gorgonia can thrive and serve as a beautiful, peaceful addition to a reef setup.
