Description
The Red Leg Hermit Crab (Clibanarius digueti) is a popular addition to reef aquariums because of its peaceful nature and algae-eating capabilities. Its bright red legs and relatively small size make it a visually appealing member of the tank’s clean-up crew. These crabs are known for their algae-grazing abilities, particularly hair algae, making them a great option for maintaining a clean and healthy reef system. The Red Leg Hermit Crab is peaceful and does not pose a threat to other tankmates, making it safe for reef aquariums. However, like most hermit crabs, it may sometimes compete with snails or other crabs for empty shells. To prevent aggression, ensure that extra empty shells are available in the tank so the crab can switch as it grows. In addition to eating algae, the Red Leg Hermit Crab will consume leftover food and detritus, helping to reduce waste and maintain good water quality. It is a hardy species that adapts well to a wide range of tank conditions, making it an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced aquarists. Approximate Purchase Size: ½” to 1″
