Description
The Red Lizard Blenny, a strikingly patterned fish with alternating red and white bars, is a peaceful and hardy addition to smaller marine and reef aquariums. Its distinctive body markings and inquisitive nature make it a favorite among aquarists, particularly those looking for an interesting and active bottom-dweller. This small species is known for its charming habit of perching on rocks and sifting through the sand for food, adding a lively element to the tank.
Native to the shallow waters of the Indo-Pacific, the Red Lizard Blenny thrives in a reef environment with plenty of hiding spots and open substrate for exploration. It is generally peaceful and coexists well with other non-aggressive tank mates, including corals and invertebrates. This species is reef-compatible, making it a safe choice for community reef tanks.
As a carnivore, the Red Lizard Blenny primarily feeds on small invertebrates. In captivity, it can be fed a variety of frozen and live foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Its diet should be supplemented regularly to ensure it remains healthy and active.
