Description
The Black Ribbon Eel is the juvenile and female coloration of the Ribbon Eel species. It has a sleek, elongated body, usually black with yellow highlights along the dorsal fin and face. As the eel matures, it may change color, transitioning from black to blue as it becomes male.
The Black Ribbon Eel is peaceful and reef-safe, making it a good addition to a marine aquarium with other non-aggressive species. However, it is known to be quite difficult to care for due to its specific dietary and environmental needs. It typically requires live or frozen meaty foods such as shrimp or fish, and can be reluctant to eat in captivity.
Due to its delicate nature and specialized care requirements, this eel is best suited for experienced aquarists who can provide the appropriate environment and feeding regimen. It also needs plenty of hiding places and a secure tank lid to prevent escape.
