Description
The Ruby Red Dragonet (Synchiropus sycorax) is a captivating species known for its striking coloration and unique body shape. Native to the reefs of the Indo-Pacific region, this small fish is distinguished by its vibrant red body, adorned with intricate blue and green patterns that create a stunning visual display in any aquarium.
As a peaceful and relatively shy species, the Ruby Red Dragonet thrives in a well-established reef aquarium where it can find plenty of hiding spots among rocks and corals. They are best kept in pairs or small groups to encourage natural behaviors, but caution should be exercised when selecting tankmates to ensure compatibility. Given their gentle nature, they should not be housed with aggressive or overly boisterous fish.
The Ruby Red Dragonet is a carnivore, primarily feeding on tiny invertebrates, especially copepods and amphipods, in its natural habitat. In captivity, it’s essential to provide a varied diet that includes high-quality frozen foods, live foods, and specialized foods designed for small carnivorous fish. Keeping a well-established aquarium with a robust population of live foods will help ensure the health and longevity of this species.
With a maximum size of 3″ and a minimum tank size of 20 gallons, the Ruby Red Dragonet makes an excellent addition to nano reefs or small community setups, bringing both color and charm to the aquatic environment.
