Description
The Sally Lightfoot Crab (Grapsus grapsus) is an active and fascinating marine invertebrate that is known for its agility and striking appearance. It features a flat, disk-like body with long, spindly legs, typically colored with shades of brown, yellow, and green, giving it a unique appearance in the aquarium. The Sally Lightfoot Crab is quick and nimble, and it spends much of its time scavenging for food in the rocks and substrate. This crab is semi-aggressive and should be housed with caution in reef aquariums, as it may sometimes pick at other invertebrates or small fish if it becomes hungry or if food is scarce. However, it is an excellent scavenger that helps clean the tank by feeding on detritus, leftover food, and algae. As an omnivore, the Sally Lightfoot Crab should be provided with a varied diet that includes algae, meaty foods like brine shrimp or mysis shrimp, and supplemental plant-based food such as seaweed or algae wafers. While generally reef-safe, careful observation is necessary to ensure the Sally Lightfoot Crab does not disturb or damage corals or other sensitive tank inhabitants.
