Description
The Sand Sifting Star is a beneficial invertebrate known for its ability to clean and aerate aquarium substrate. By burrowing through the sand, this starfish consumes detritus, uneaten food, and other organic matter, helping to keep the tank clean and healthy. Its peaceful nature makes it compatible with most reef tanks, and it is particularly valued for its role in maintaining a clean sand bed. Sand Sifting Stars spend most of their time buried under the substrate and come to the surface mainly to move between locations. It’s important to ensure the aquarium has a deep, sandy substrate for them to thrive and exhibit their natural behavior. They require a mature tank with established sand beds to find sufficient food.
