Description
The Shepard’s Pygmy Angelfish, also known as the Shepard’s Dwarf Angelfish, is a small, vibrant species with a striking orange body adorned with blue and black stripes. This colorful and hardy angelfish is a popular choice among aquarists due to its manageable size and captivating appearance. While relatively peaceful, it may show semi-aggressive behavior, particularly towards other small angelfish or similarly sized tank mates.
Originating from the Western Pacific, the Shepard’s Pygmy Angelfish is well-suited for established marine aquariums with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding. It is reef-compatible with caution, as it may nip at coral polyps or clam mantles, making it a careful addition for mixed reef tanks. Aquarists should monitor its interactions with coral and invertebrates to ensure compatibility.
This species is an omnivore and benefits from a varied diet that includes marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, and other frozen foods. Regular feeding with a mix of algae-based and meaty foods helps maintain its bright coloration and overall health. With appropriate care, Shepard’s Pygmy Angelfish can be a beautiful and lively addition to marine aquariums.
