Description
The Spade Fish, also known as the Atlantic Spadefish or simply Spadefish, is a stunning and distinctive species recognized by its tall, disk-like body and bold black and silver vertical stripes. With its peaceful temperament and schooling nature, this species makes an impressive addition to large aquariums. Due to its size and active swimming habits, the Spade Fish requires a spacious tank, preferably with plenty of open swimming areas and minimal obstructions.
Native to the Atlantic Ocean, particularly coastal areas and estuaries, the Spade Fish thrives in well-maintained aquariums with stable water conditions. It is “Reef Compatible With Caution” as it may pick at certain invertebrates, though it generally coexists well in reef environments with durable corals and larger tank mates.
The Spade Fish is an omnivore and should be provided with a varied diet that includes both plant-based and meaty foods. It accepts a range of foods, such as marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, and brine shrimp. A well-rounded diet will support its health, growth, and vibrant appearance.
