Description
The Speckled Damsel (Yellow), with its vivid yellow and orange body and characteristic black “eye-spot” near the tail, is a hardy and attractive choice for marine aquariums. This eye-spot serves as a defense mechanism against predators, diverting attention away from the fish’s head. Known for its resilience and adaptability, this damselfish is a great option for beginner aquarists, though it can display semi-aggressive behavior typical of the damselfish family.
This species is native to the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific and thrives in reef or fish-only aquariums. It’s reef-compatible and generally safe around corals and invertebrates, making it a suitable choice for community reef tanks. However, care should be taken when introducing it to a tank with other semi-aggressive or territorial fish, as it may defend its space.
As an omnivore, the Speckled Damsel has a flexible diet and will accept a variety of foods. To keep it healthy and vibrant, offer a balanced diet of marine flakes, pellets, and frozen foods such as mysis shrimp and brine shrimp.
