Description
The Squarebox Anthias – Male (Pseudanthias pleurotaenia) is a striking species known for its vibrant pink, red, and white color pattern. The fish gets its name from the distinctive square patch located on its side, which sets it apart from other Anthias species. The male Squarebox Anthias displays bold colors that stand out in any reef aquarium, especially under proper lighting.
Native to the deep reefs of the Indo-Pacific, this peaceful fish thrives in well-established tanks with plenty of swimming space. It is reef compatible and poses no threat to corals or invertebrates, making it a great addition to peaceful reef environments. The Squarebox Anthias prefers to be housed in groups, mimicking its natural schooling behavior.
This carnivorous species feeds on zooplankton in the wild and requires a varied diet of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped meaty foods in captivity. Multiple feedings per day are recommended to maintain its health and vibrant coloration. A tank of at least 125 gallons is ideal to accommodate the schooling nature and active swimming behavior of the Squarebox Anthias.
