Description
The Dilectus Dottyback (Dilectus dottyback) is a vibrant and intriguing fish that adds both color and character to marine aquariums. With a striking green body highlighted by orange accents, this species is particularly favored by aquarists for its beauty and relatively hardy nature.
Native to the reefs of the Indo-Pacific, the Dilectus Dottyback thrives in environments with plenty of rockwork for hiding and grazing. Although it is generally peaceful, this species can exhibit semi-aggressive behavior, especially towards other dottybacks or similar-sized fish. To reduce territorial disputes, it is best to introduce them into a well-established aquarium with ample hiding spots.
In terms of diet, the Dilectus Dottyback is a carnivore that benefits from a varied diet, including high-quality frozen and live foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and small crustaceans. A balanced diet is essential for maintaining its health and vibrant colors.
This species is considered reef compatible, but caution should be exercised as they may nip at corals or invertebrates if stressed or underfed. A minimum tank size of 30 gallons is recommended to provide adequate space for swimming and establishing territory.
